Charles Spencer Chaplin (1889–1977) is an American film actor and film director. The phenomenon of Ch. Chaplin is the embodiment of the theory of "author's cinema" (the artist simultaneously acted as a screenwriter, director, actor, and composer in most of his films). His artistic output will forever remain in the history of world cinematography as a bright example of interpretation of the "comic" category. Chaplin's creative path includes three stages. The first is the period of the artist's formation, when experience was accumulated, active experimentation was carried out in the field of form and style, pictorial structure.

In general, the number of such festivals throughout Ukraine is immeasurably large. Odesa International Film Festival, Kyiv International Film Festival "Youth", Kharkiv International Festival "Kharkiv MeetDocs", "New Ukrainian Cinema" in Luhansk region, "Days of Ukrainian Cinema" in Lviv, etc.

The Western avant-garde of the 1920s is vividly represented in French cinematography, in particular in the films of R. Clair (1890–1981) - "Paris Fell Asleep." "Intermission"; A. Hansa (1889–198'!) – "Wheel", "Napoleon"; in the surrealist tapes of L. Beunuel ([900_1983) – "Andalusian Dog", "The Golden Age" and in the cinema of Germany, in the depths of which the direction that was called film expressionism arose. Its prominent representatives were R. Wiene (1881–1938) – the director of the film “Cab!net of Dr. Caligari”, which is considered a manifesto of this direction, F. Lang (1890–1976) – “The Nibelungen”, “Weary Death”: F. Murnau (1889–1931) – "Nosferatu", "The Last Man".

Film festivals Today, the Ukrainian film industry is at the stage of its heyday and is reaching the level of popularity. This is confirmed by the large number of events that support and promote Ukrainian cinema. An example of one of these events is the "Modern Ukrainian Cinema" festival, which took place on the territory of the Mykhailo Hrushevsky Odesa Regional Scientific Library. Everyone who wanted to could watch modern Ukrainian cinema for free, which was presented at international film festivals: "Home" (2019, drama), "My thoughts are quiet" (2019, tragicomedy), "Myth" (2017, documentary), "Cool 1918" ( 2018, historical), "The city in which money does not circulate" (2018, fantasy).

An extremely interesting aspect was chosen by V. Slobodian, researching acting schools in the cinematography of Ukraine. The author focuses on the work of theater actors of Les Kurbas in the cinema, which makes it possible to judge the contribution of the great director to the art of cinema, despite the fact that no film directed directly by Kurbas has survived. The actors of the Kurbasa theater showed themselves brilliantly in the films of O. Dovzhenko, I. Kavaleridze, and other famous directors, fully taking advantage of the lessons of their great teacher.
